How To Easily Move Heavy Objects

Heavy objects can be difficult to get from place to place, especially if you are tasked with moving something all by yourself. Luckily, there are a few things that most anyone can do quickly and inexpensively. The tips below can help both at home and at work.

Use an Industrial Cart

If you are moving around something in a warehouse or another large space, then using an industrial cart is going to be one of your best bets for moving an object safely and quickly. One important tip when it comes to carts is this: just because something fits on a cart doesn’t mean the cart can support it. Make sure to check the cart’s weight limit before trying to move something. To make the movement of the cart smoother, try using spring loaded casters.

Construct a Ramp

Moving items down a ramp tends to be a lot easier than moving the same items downstairs or on a flat surface. If you do not have a ramp already, you can make one easily out of plywood. The more durable the plywood, the better. When doing this, it is important to remember that plywood ramps can shift as you are walking, so make sure that you are watching your step. If you are too nervous about carrying an item on a ramp, try gently pushing it up or down the ramp and letting it slide instead.

Strap It Down

When moving multiple items at once, or if you are worried the item may slip, try strapping it down. There are a few great types of rope and tie-downs you can try, including bungee cords, nylon ropes, and ratchet straps. Use whichever you think will make your item the most secure.

Doing one or all of these things can make moving any large or heavy object a little easier. Remember, when in doubt, don’t be afraid to ask for help.
